Meet Charlie Rounds
Large-scale gay group travel started 26 years ago when Kevin Mossier founded RSVP Vacations in my hometown of Minneapolis. Because of the social climate of the time, during the height of the AIDS epidemic and socialized homophobia, he saw a need to create a safe place for gays and lesbians to vacation.
I've been lucky enough to see the progress we've made in gay travel since then. One of the fondest memories of my career was bringing my parents on an all-gay cruise in 1994. My father, a decorated World War II pilot, was frail with Parkinson's Disease and needed help boarding the tender boat in Saint Martin. Seeing some of the cruise passengers immediately assist him and treat him with such care and respect filled me with pride for my community. I believe that this camaraderie is what gay group travel is all about.
We are launching Brand g with three of my favorite vacations, cruising the Danube, enjoying all that Ireland has to offer, and tasting the unbelievable excitement that can only be found in Mexico City. In the next few months we will add additional trips including a seven-day vacation focusing on health and wellness as well as looking at global issues that affect the local community.
