Peering Through the Porthole: An Interview with Brand g’s Director of Marketing, Eric Poole

11/06/2020

Introduction:

Some of you already know me – I’m Brand g’s Director of Marketing. I’ve been with the company since 2016 (I won the free cruise giveaway that year and loved the experience so much, I made them hire me), and I handle all the advertising, social media, newsletters, website, blog posts, etc.

When I’m on Brand g trips, I’m not working, so I don’t have the high profile that the other Brand g boys have onboard.

But I’m around…occasionally as the supermodel Erica von Snatch.

  1. What’s your favorite part of your job?

The social media and blog posts. I’m also an author (I have two memoirs – from Penguin/Random House and Rosetta/Simon & Schuster – out, and a third book in the works), so I love writing. Building the Brand g community on social, and giving travel tips in blog posts is a great way to get my writing jollies and force Jeff and Brian to compliment me. Which I require. It’s in my contract.

  • What was your most embarrassing Brand g moment?

See photo collage above.

  1. What’s your favorite Brand g memory?

God, where to start. Maybe – since it was the most recent – the Christmas Markets cruise this past December. My husband and I brought 12 friends, so it was especially memorable, since the odds of getting us all on one trip again are roughly the same as Donald Trump accepting defeat.

Two of our friends overslept the morning of our visit to the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany (which is a two-hour bus ride from Munich), and they took a $200 taxi to get there in time to join us, because they were not gonna miss it.

  • What is your favorite travel destination?

South Africa. Sitting in an open-air jeep just a few feet away from animals that look at you and think buffet is a life-changing experience. And Cape Town is super sophisticated and absolutely stunning. The best part was doing it with Brand g, because it’s totally 5-star. I haven’t camped since I was nine years old and I’m not gonna start now.

  1. Where in the world would you like to go that is unavailable (i.e. unsafe, politically unstable, too hard to reach, whatever)?

I’ve heard amazing things from Brian & Jeff about Myanmar. Hopefully we’ll be able to go back again in the next couple of years, if things settle down there.

  • What is the stupidest/most embarrassing job you ever had?

It’s a toss-up.

#1 – Working as a shoe salesman at Thom McAn. Wedging women’s size 10 feet into size 7 pumps required more upper body strength than I possessed. And I can still smell the limp $20 dollar bills pulled from sweaty cleavage.

#2 – Being an alterations guy for a tuxedo rental shop. Sitting in a humid, un-airconditioned back room hemming pants for $4/hour made me feel like Norma Rae, but without all the protesting and Academy Awards.

  • What would you be if you could be anything?

An author with a TV series or movie made from one of my books. My first book was developed by ABC as a sitcom, but so far, I’m still not famous. Except as .

  1. What is your greatest extravagance?

Sushi. I probably have about a pound of mercury in my body and will end up renting myself out as a thermometer in the next pandemic.

  • What one thing would you want people to know about you?

I’m deaf in one ear. (Born that way, as The Gaga says.) If you ever say something to me on a Brand g trip and I ignore you, don’t assume that my celebrity as a supermodel has gone to my head. You’re just on my bad side and I didn’t hear you!
