Exploring Vienna will be a highlight of your trip if you have a few hours or a few days. Here are some highlights to consider with your time.
Belvedere – The Belvedere is a magnificent Baroque palace housing one of Austria’s most valuable art collections – with key works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka.
Danube Tower – Standing 252 meters high, two fast lifts, 35 seconds up: the observation terrace of the Danube Tower at a height of 155 meters offers the best view over Vienna.
Giant Ferris Wheel – is one of the city’s symbols. Almost 65 meters tall, it offers a breathtaking view of the city on the Danube.
Hofburg – Imperial Palace – For more than seven centuries, the great empire of the Habsburgs was ruled from the Imperial Palace. Today, the Gothic Imperial Chapel, where the Vienna Boys’ Choir performs during High Mass on Sunday, is a remnant of the Imperial Palace during the Middle Ages.
Spanish Riding School – The Spanish Riding School and its world-famous Lipizzaners offers the highest standard of horse-riding art in the Baroque ambience of the Imperial Palace.
St. Charles Church A magnificent religious building with a large cupola: St. Charles’ Church, the last work of the eminent baroque architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.
While in Vienna, dinner will be served onboard the ship. For guests who want to explore other options please contact the ships reception for recommendations.
There’s nowhere better to enjoy a cup of coffee than in one of Vienna’s world-famous coffeehouses. But not everyone knows that there are numerous excellent locations exclusively for the LGBT + community and their friends to enjoy. Vienna’s excellent bar and cafe scene is right up there at the top of the list of the world’s worst kept secrets.
Here is a selection of venues for you to try.
Café Savoy – a traditional eye catching Viennese coffee house dating back to imperial times. There is a colorful flea market at the Naschmarkt on Saturdays, for which the Savoy opens early.
Fett + Zucker – has become a permanent fixture on the scene. This small espresso bar in the second district offers outstanding cakes, with vegan, gluten-, and lactose-free options.
Village Bar – with a relaxed and communicative crowd, friendly waiters and tasty drinks ensure that this side street bar is very popular, and that the guests are just as sociable.
Felixx – open daily in the lower Gumpendorferstraße in the sixth district, it scores points with its grandiose ambiance and great music, from pop hits to house.
Kisss Bar Vienna – serving drinks and food: from carpaccio to Kasnudeln (Carinthian cheese pasta) and the Kisss burger, the menu is packed with all sorts of treats. An unusual feature of the bar is the “Art Corner” (Kunst Corner): a pop-up store which can be rented by artists.
Sling – popular cruising bar among visitors and locals with a small bar next to the entrance and a large cruising area downstairs. There are a lot of theme parties each week.
Eagle Bar – one of the oldest gay leather & jeans bars of Austria and a hotspot for the Viennese gay scene. They are often closed during our trips for vacation. Please check before going.
