Inverness Highlights To Explore on Your Own

Time will be limited in the small city of Inverness however for guests with more time than the allotted free morning, there are interesting places to visit that are not already included on your tour. This compact Scottish city is perfect for exploration by foot — travelers can easily find their way around.

Here are some highlights to consider with your time including the lovely River Ness to historic Inverness Castle and St. Andrews Cathedral, and beyond to the events at Eden Court and the busy Victorian Market.

Fort George (The Highlander Museum)  – Following the 1746 defeat at Culloden of Bonnie Prince Charlie, George II created the ultimate defense against further Jacobite unrest. The result, Fort George, is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain. Situated 11 miles from Inverness this historic site will provide a fascinating insight into 18th century military life.

Inverness Museum and Art Gallery  – where you can explore a fascinating range of artefacts and collections that celebrate Highland life and heritage.
